Stichting Ambulance Wens has been nominated by Laurens

This year my father-in-law Jack passed away at the age of 66 from metastatic prostate cancer. In the last period of his life he consciously said goodbye to everything and everyone that was dear to him.

One of those things was his job. Born and raised on a farm, he has always worked in agriculture as a mechanical engineer. Even when he was no longer able to work due to his illness, he could still regularly be found at the workplace to advise and assist his colleagues.

Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated so badly in the last few weeks that he became immobile and could no longer be cared for at home. As a result, he was admitted to a hospice quite suddenly. A hospice is a place for terminally ill people for whom treatment is no longer possible, but can no longer be cared for at home.

He had the wish to go to the workshop one more time. Have one last coffee with his colleagues and say hello to them. And to do another round of the machines.

Fortunately, this was made possible by Stichting Ambulance Wens Netherlands! This foundation is a group of 270 medically trained volunteers who daily fulfill the last wishes of immobile (people dependent on ambulance transport) terminal patients free of charge using specially developed ambulances. This foundation can do its fantastic job because of donations from individuals and companies and are completely dependent on it.

Jack had a wonderful day with his family and colleagues. Now that Jack has passed away, this day remains a beautiful memory for his loved ones that gives strength in this sad time. All this thanks to the beautiful work of the Stichting Ambulance Wens Netherlands.
