When I lie in my warm bed in the evening with a meal, I am grateful for that. I know that this is not always the case for others. In Eastern Europe, for example, winter is an especially difficult time for the poorest people. Every day, these people have to choose between gnawing hunger or bitter cold.
The Mensenkinderen Foundation helps these people in Albania, Armenia, and Moldova who have no one else to care for them. They do this by providing food parcels and packages of firewood or briquettes during the winter months. Simple things, but invaluable to those who have nothing. These packages mean that people can cook again and stay warm.
The Mensenkinderen Foundation works through local organizations and churches. This is to ensure that the aid goes where it is most needed. A food parcel costs €34 each and a parcel of firewood costs €36 each. Relief supplies are purchased locally, thus stimulating the local economy.
